Wheat grass powder

My wheat grass powder just arrived and I made a smoothie with it. It tastes so yummy. It adds a bit of tartness to it but is great. I can't grow anything, I have tried ,I just do noy have a green thumb. And I can't find wheat grass to add to my juices anywhere. I did however, find wheat grass shots at smoothie King for almost $3 a shot (ouch). So I recently learned about wheat grass powder being the next best thing.

So what exactly is wheat grass powder?  And what are the benefits?
Wheat Grass is one of the most potent leafy greens on earth, not to mention a great source of vitamins and minerals. Organic wheat grass naturally detoxifies the body and boost immune systems, metabolism and has been known to lower blood pressure as well. :)

If you are interested in adding wheat grass powder to your juices or smoothies....This is the one I purchased, it was a lot cheaper, on amazon.com. Starwest Botanicals. It was like around $15 for the pound and you only use 1/4 tsp. So I see it lasting quite a long while.

Day 43.....hmmmm

hmmm....last night I did something I am not proud of. We have Easter candy in the house and I was weak....need I say more? I fell hard into old habits and ate jelly beans, then 3 miniature candy bars. I also did not juice at all. I did have 1 smoothie but I have no idea what happened that made me feel like it was OKAY to do this type of eating.  I am not going to beat myself up for it or make myself feel guilty about the also eating strawberry ice cream. I just have to learn to move past this and not do it again. I can't fall back in to old habits. I realize that if I would have just made that smoothie or taken the time to make a juice, I would have been okay and then I could have possibly escaped the clutches of those starburst jellybeans, LOL. So lesson was learned. I just had to put this out there, be honest with myself. And not hide anything.

Happy Easter !!

Day 37 and I am feeling great

Day 37 and I am feeling great ! A little hungry, but great. I woke up and had my Bigelow herbal lemon and ginger tea then went and ran an errand and hit Smoothie King
for a wheat grass shot and a Carrot Kale Dream smoothie  , afterwards I went to the gym and hit the treadmill for 2.71 miles of walking. Tomorrow is the day that I drop my 1 meal a day from here on out . I will have a home made smoothie and then just juice for the rest of the day. Of course adding in water and my hot tea too.

Carrot Kale Dream .... yummy ! It tasted like a Dreamsicle.

So wish me lots of luck ! This is going to be like juicing from day 1. But I will make it.

37/90 days down. 53 more days to go.... of which will be juices and smoothies only. (but I may go for 60 days)

Birthday Bash

Today is day 36 juicing and eating for me and I fell off the wagon quite a bit. I planned to : (1) being it is my daughter's 10th birthday ( 2) to try to eat for a few days before I switch to full on juicing...eating more than I have been .... So today we had Ella's party and I had pizza and a cupcake and ice cream then later another cupcake and ice cream at home. yikes ! I also had diet soda which tasted really horrible to me, like chemicals. So now I have a bloated tummy ache. Paying for my 2 feet of choices here. (you know that hand to mouth decision) And knowing that this was only a one time thing. Feeling it was too. But i am not beating myself up over it because it was planned and I have no regrets. Except the soda. blech. I haven't had soda in almost 2 months and wow what a difference 2 months makes. Back to juicing tomorrow except I will be full on juicing , dropping my one meal per day that I was eating for the past 36 days. I hope I can do this. Or rather I know I can, I just have to fight the urges to eat food. It is going to be hard but I can get through this.

Lots to look forward to in April:

Starting April 1st I am in a group that is doing a Spring into Shape exercise challenge. So this will help to keep me motivated and accountable as well for April. And April 19th I have the Biggest Loser 5K Walk. I am still training for it....just a bit worried about my hip because around mile 2 my hip and back have been giving me trouble and I have another mile to go before finishing. So lots more training to do these next 3 weeks before the big day.

Some pictures for you:

Happy Holi ! Happy Spring !

Happy Holi !  We attended our first Holi festival today and had a blast. If you aren't familiar with what one is it's a festival of colors to celebrate spring's arrival. It is also a cultural event but it is celebrated all over the world, not just in India. It is traditionally celebrated on Phalgun Purnima which comes the end of February or early March. The Holi festival has an ancient origin and celebrates the triumph of 'good' over 'bad'. The colorful festival bridges the social gap. On this day, people hug and wish each other 'Happy Holi'.

We had a wonderful time. We threw a few colors , as you can see from my photos below. Tasted a bit of Indian food and soda. So super yummy, enjoyed the Indian music and most of all had a wonderful family day out.

Me and my girls celebrating Holi.

 Hubby , isn't he handsome?

Indian Soda, yummy. I know, I know, not considered part of my juicing plan, but it was so tasty and refreshing on such a hot day.

Neurology Appointment

I went to the neurologist today. Good news is my blood pressure was 93/65 and he lowered my bp med dosage and decreased it to once a day. so i will be off of it completely next visit. :) i did however gain 2 lbs back :/ but i can deal with that . it just comes off slowly and i have to learn to deal with that. bad news is surgery is out because i will be living with my back and neck pain and migraines for the rest of my life, so he said. he said surgery wont help my back and my neck is too risky because its at the base of my brain. It's a bit frustrating. I was hoping for some type of relief or answer other than what I received, but I will just have to learn to cope.

Time to Change it up a bit

It's time to change things up a bit. Shake things up and see if my weight loss doesn't kick start once again. Today I started walking 2 miles on the treadmill at the gym and that was a major victory for me . Up until now I have been waking and having a herbal hot tea, drinking a juice then another hot tea and a juice mid morning then an early dinner (or late lunch) . I drink lots of water and iced tea. I use sweet n low and stevia for my sweeteners if any is used. I also add in one smoothie a day usually in the evening and I try to get in another juice in the evening as well as another herbal tea before bed.
But my weight loss has hit a wall. I am now currently at 296. I finally got the scale to move down and it did , 2 lbs but I see others losing weight a bit faster than this and so I think I am going to change things up a bit because I think my body is used to my routine now. So here I am , going in to day 27 tomorrow and I am going to start off with my herbal tea then have breakfast and then juice the rest of the day, with trying to get in 3 juices if not more. But if this does not have positive results by day 35, then I will go in to full juicing with no eating.
So wish me luck as I venture in to this new eating and juicing plan. I am hoping it tricks my body out if it's old routine and in to a new one. But then again, like someone else in one of my juicing groups told me, the more you juice, the more you lose and I don't think I have been getting enough juice lately. I started off on track with juicing and have fallen back some with it lately. So I think dropping the daily smoothie and replacing it with juice will help some too. What do you think?
As well as walking 2 miles a day on the treadmill at the gym which that will increase shortly to 3 miles as I am still training for my 5K Biggest Loser Walk fast approaching (April 19).

So wish me luck on this St. Patrick's Day.
Juice On !
